In A Design Rut? 3 Ways to Update Your Brand Without Rebranding

Just know – there are some bigger signs that you need a complete rebrand as opposed to a refresh, like your logo being too trendy and looking outdated, your business/offerings have definitely changed, or you really just can’t connect to your branding at all – in a way that makes you feel ashamed or embarrassed to promoting.

So I’m going to jump right in and talk about the 3 ways to refresh your visuals without rebranding. I know the new year is coming and SO many of us set goals and resolutions in the new year, including rebranding. Maybe you feel like it isn’t connecting or you just kind of what to spruce it up – this is the episode for you.

Tip Number One:
Brand Photography

There is literally nothing that brings a brand together like great photography. You can use new photos on your website, your social media profiles, and marketing collateral. It’s all about making sure you get a variety of shots and partner with a photography who naturally understands the aesthetic and editing style you’re going for.

When it comes to doing my brand photoshoots, I always try to make sure I do a couple of different things:- Plan at least 2 outfits so that you can switch it up the look and feel and have enough to work with- Get branded stock photos to use throughout your feed and website

It’s one of the easiest ways to really elevate your brand.

Tip Number Two:
Update Your Color Palette

Sometimes you just need a little something different – and that’s understandable! Now what I don’t recommend, is creating an entirely new color palette, especially if you’ve worked with a designer previously.

What you may need to do, is simply add one color to your palette or drop a color if you have too many. It seems like a really simple change, but it can make a really big difference. If you need help figuring out what kind of color to add, check out Adobe Color CC. I’ll drop the link in the show notes.

Tip Number Three:
Update Your Fonts
Just like updating your color palette is a super simple way, so is updating your brand fonts. Now it’s important here to go for what already fits with your brand identity and messaging.

If you have a business that’s super modern, don’t go with a whimsical brush font. Do some research on what feelings are evoked by certain fonts and typefaces, before you add it to your brand. You may need to only update your heading as opposed to the full body text, or change up both!

So just remember:

  1. Choose a font style that goes with your existing branding
  2. Make sure you choose two fonts that pair together well
  3. Choose legible fonts only!
Nothing is worst than that script font that’s super cute that no one can read.
